How to Record a GIF

Quick Start

  1. Right-click the ShareX tray icon
  2. Go to Capture > GIF recording
  3. Select the area you want to record
  4. Click Start
  5. Perform your actions
  6. Click Stop in the tray menu or use the stop hotkey

Using the Main Window

  1. Open ShareX
  2. Click Capture > GIF recording
  3. Choose your region type (full screen, window, or custom region)
  4. Start recording
  5. Stop when done

Optimizing GIF Quality and Size

GIFs can become very large. Here are tips to keep them manageable:

  • Keep recordings short: 5-15 seconds is ideal
  • Limit the capture area: Record only the relevant part of the screen
  • Lower FPS: 15 FPS is usually enough for GIFs
  • Configure in Settings: Go to Task Settings > Screen Recorder > GIF recording options
