ShareX Image Editor Overview

Every screenshot you take in ShareX can be opened in the built-in image editor before saving or sharing. This editor provides annotation, drawing, and editing tools without needing external software.

  • Rectangle / Ellipse — Draw shapes to highlight regions of interest
  • Freehand Drawing — Draw or write on screenshots with mouse or pen
  • Text — Add captions, notes, or labels with customizable fonts and colors
  • Step Numbers — Add numbered steps (1, 2, 3...) for tutorial-style screenshots
  • Speech Bubbles — Add comic-style speech bubbles for commentary

Image Adjustments

  • Blur — Hide sensitive information like passwords, emails, or personal data
  • Pixelate — Block out areas while keeping them partially readable
  • Highlight — Emphasize important areas with a semi-transparent color overlay
  • Crop — Trim screenshots to focus on the relevant content
  • Resize — Scale images up or down while maintaining quality

Cutout Feature

ShareX includes a unique cutout tool that can:

  • Remove a selected area and shift remaining content to close the gap
  • Useful for removing blank space or unwanted UI elements from screenshots

  • Enable Show image editor after capture to automatically open each screenshot for editing
  • Use keyboard shortcuts to speed up your annotation workflow
